Research Outline: RockX Initiative

In the heart of the music industry, a groundbreaking project is underway. RockX, a new hybrid music history museum, digital music archive, and event center, is preparing for its grand opening in about 18 months. Funded by a $1 billion donation from the Silicon Valley venture capital community, RockX is set to become a beacon for rock and roll enthusiasts worldwide.

The project's primary goal is to create a custom design for RockX's digital presence, catering to the needs of both consumers and the museum's staff. The staff requires highly usable and efficient tools to manage the museum's digital presence, collection of physical artifacts, and events.

The project involves several key features. For consumers, the web-based minimum viable scope includes learning about rock and roll history, exploring bands and artists, enjoying permanent and special exhibits, reading reviews, planning a visit to the physical facility, watching live-streamed content, applying to have one's band adopted and promoted, purchasing merchandise, and subscribing to the mailing list.

On the mobile side, the minimum viable scope includes using a personal digital docent app for guiding visitors through the museum, providing AR supplemental content, accessing live events, helping visitors pick a standard premade plan or build a simple custom visit plan, and purchasing items while viewing the exhibits.

To ensure a seamless user experience, the project requires creating personas for at least 5 users of the site/app. It also involves creating a navigation framework and basic page structure for the web and mobile designs, as well as a UX flow design for the top-priority tasks.

In addition, the project requires practicing the full Semantic IxD method, which involves creating an Object-Action matrix and the Attributes table for the MVP, a Prioritization Matrix for the action/object pairs, and a conceptual model for the design.

The project extends beyond the museum's walls, with features designed to enhance the visitor's experience before, during, and after their visit. This includes tracking exhibit analytics while inside the museum, tracking the utilization of the mobile tour and AR usage per museum exhibit and event, and publishing an event calendar on the website.

Moreover, the project involves managing events, musical instruments, and exhibits on the website, managing the donation process, tracking donations and released matching endowment funds, and tracking website analytics outside of the museum.

To engage visitors further, the project requires creating a gamified version of the UX design if desired, with the goal of increasing engagement online, increasing engagement time within the museum, increasing event sales and participation, and donations.

However, the project does not involve managing the museum's physical gift shop or a general eCommerce store on web or phone. Items for purchase can only be marketed in context of an exhibit or an event. The project also does not provide preliminary design work as a co-pilot, does not involve supporting a hall of fame, awards, or ratings, and does not involve user-generated content or a community feature.

As the opening of RockX approaches, this project promises to revolutionize the way we experience and learn about rock and roll history. With its unique blend of technology and tradition, RockX is set to become a must-visit destination for music lovers everywhere.
